I second the part about breaking out the middle into subgoals! Each of those then has a start and an end, and they're shorter, and they help you through the slog...

Somehow that idea of the middle seems more helpful than taking an infinite number of baby steps!

Thanks so much for this, Tania! Especially "....it sounds to me like you need more replenishment and lenience than fixes, if you’re to ride out the middles with a serene heart." You're absolutely right.

Thanks for the thoughtful post, Tania! I like the "making the middle special" point. It makes me think about the video, An Invocation for Beginnings by Ze Frank: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYlCVwxoL_g . In it he says, "let me not think of my work only as a stepping stone to something else, and if it is, let me become fascinated with the shape of the stone."

That's beautifully put. I guess it does boil down to process > outcome.

Love this issue, Tania! I like your suggestion to simply accepting and acknowledging that there will most like to be a dip, it’s just part of it. Even though I’m guilty of not doing it very often, I find a lot of value in paying attention to and celebrating little milestones along the way. And oh, I’ve been curious about Oliver’s book, and now I’m even more intrigued to read!

Oh, move the book to the top of your pile, I promise!!

And I'm here to shower you with virtual high-fives you when you need to mark those milestones :)
