I know that I am a big time upholder.

Another Upholder! I wonder if there's many of you among consistent Substack writers :)

Awesome issue, Tania!

I am 110% an Upholder. I've read all of Gretchen's books and listened to her podcast (which she hosts with her sister) for years. I can't say I've made any life updates lately based on my tendency (or anything else I've learned from her)...maybe it's time to revisit her work.

Woah, lots of upholders in the room! Which of Rubin's other books would you recommend? I do read a lot of "self-help" books and rarely make (big) changes after reading them. But I like those aha moments that help me reframe situations--I think those add up over time.

Honestly I really liked her first (and bestselling, famous) book, The Happiness Project. It made a lot of sense to me. I found it inspiring.

Love this! Yes, I want to know which your tendency is too. I took the quiz and I'm a "rebel." I love the little graphic you made!

That's super interesting about broken sleep. As I write this, I've been up since 4 am and feeling pretty rotten about that. But maybe I need to change the way and expectations I'm thinking about sleep (which ties into Thing #2!) Thanks for this, Tania!

P.S. I loooooove your references to your Beloved. That's what I call my husband too ❤️

I don't think I know many Rebels. I'm curious to know how that shows up in your life!

My husband and I got married and started our family when we were 19 and 20 so I was technically a teen mom…but on purpose. He’s an entrepreneur and I homeschool so we kind of do things our own way—including living as a family of 7 in an RV for 16 months—and we don’t care too much about what’s normal or expected. It’s worked out well so far and I love the path our lives has taken.

However, since I don’t have a tendency to even try to meet my own expectations, I can slip into pretty inconsistent cycles of self-discipline…my house is really messy most of the time 😵‍💫 And it’s hard for my husband and I to get on the same page, too. We are trying to be more peaceable and easygoing and less strong-willed and opinionated. Only 1/5 of our kids isn’t particularly strong-willed so our kids seem to be on the rebel trajectory also 😅

Wow, yes. "I love the path our lives has taken" is more than many people can say. 💛 I hope to find out more about your RV stint some day.

Which is your tendency? I don’t need to take the quiz to know I’m definitely an upholder.

I think I'm a Questioner (the fact that I say "I think I am" probably makes me one, ha!) with Obliger inclinations. I ask Why all the time, and crave a lot of data to make decisions.
